Our mission is to further the understanding and practice of planned environment therapy, promoting and supporting therapeutic approaches to the treatment of children and adults who have suffered emotional and psychological hurts. Reaching out from our base, the Barns Centre, we work to support, develop, promote and preserve this important way of working and living.
Since 1989, our unique (and ever expanding) Archive and Study Centre has gathered a diverse range of material relevant to the field of therapeutic care attracting students, historians and researchers in a variety of disciplines. An active and engaged enterprise, with an extensive collection of archives, oral histories and a dedicated research library, the Archive and Study Centre is hub for exchange and discussion, actively reaching out and working with a range of individuals, organisations and communities concerned and involved with therapeutic environments.
With on-site conference facilities and residential accommodation, the Trust also maintain the Barns Conference Centre (pictured), a peaceful and unique venue, ideal for small conferences, training courses or workshops. We're also equipped to cater for group retreats and special gatherings, with on-site purpose built accommodation and ample parking.
